In January our NWCTW beauty therapy students conducted some market research
investigating how their skills can be shared to benefit their local North Inner City Dublin
community.
Through community mapping exercise they identified homeless and elderly as experience most difficulty accessing beauty services.
The group visited the lighthouse homeless shelter to investigate way their services in
beauty
therapy might be of some benefit to people affected by homelessness. The very friendly Derek, made us feel right at home and share his knowledge on the matter. He explained people are affected by homelessness in lots of different ways and avail of lots of different services. For a lot of people been talked to as a human being can make a world of difference and to be treated as anyone else. He recommend a visit to Nobucks cafe on o connells street to see how beauty service might be offered to people engaging the cafe.
The NWCTW beauty ladies then took a trip to Sean Mc Dermot street Daycare centre to research the interest from senior citizen in beauty treatments and investigate if there are any barriers for them to access these services in their community. Bernie the manager of the centre shared a lot of insight in to the experience of the elderly and what they look for from a service in beauty and healthcare. Friendly chatting and interpersonal skills was most important on their list
