I had the opportunity recently to explain my Dublin internship to a French friend who asked me how it was going.
While my initial inclination was to flash her a giant smile and shout ‘great!’ I also had to decide how to answer the question – do I let her know that the young people with whom I am working are feverishly striving to complete their ‘Build Your Future Challenge’ project and video for submission in Germany’s contest this Fall? Do I indicate that BYF’s Coordinator, Camilla, and I are working hard to involve the community in a global cafe in order to pursue the bigger conversations? Do I inform her that we attended a picnic last week to celebrate the Monto and its history, music, artist spaces, and neighborhood camaraderie?
In the end I shared with her all of the above. I am so proud that BYFD has become a recognizable name in the community and I look forward to helping it do so even more. I am excited to see the events put together and I am thrilled to do whatever I can to help its young people address their society in ways that can change it for the better. Most importantly, I am learning and caring so much about this community and immensely appreciate the welcome it has extended to me!
Keep your eyes peeled as we further describe its work, progress, and efforts!
